I have admired Navajo and Pueblo weaving techniques since the 1970's and in the past 10 years I've been fortunate to find good teachers and enough stolen time to learn more about these elegant methods of producing beautiful and enduring textiles.

Here, you'll see a picture of me with a rug that I finished in 1998.   Most of the work I do is with Navajo techniques.  This rug is a Two Gray Hills design and was done for my husband's parents.  My work is strictly private and I don't sell it.  I do work on a volunteer basis with some efforts to assist Navajo weavers in marketing their work and with the 'Ndahoo'aah program at Monument Valley High School.  This has led to doing a little speaking and teaching, although I think this is better done by Navajo and Pueblo weavers.  My goal is to promote appreciation for indigenous weaving as an art form, and in some way to help a new generation weave into the this millenium.

My "big" loom is made out of 2 x 6 lumber and would probably accomodate a piece about 30 inches wide and five feet long.  I'll be adding a link to show the loom and the piece I'm currently working on very soon.  I also have other looms that I use for smaller pieces and those woven with fine yarns.  I used to say that I didn't spin and dye my yarns, but last year one of the elders at Monument Valley taught me how to use a hip spindle properly so I am spinning enough yarn for a small rug.  I hope that she'll be pleased when she sees it.  Spinning and dyeing the yarn will quadruple the time it will take to finish the  piece.  The rug in the picture above took me 15 months to finish and is about 2' x 3'.   I am currently finishing a two-faced rug, and will add some pictures of it soon.  I have been using a miniature loom from C-Cactusflower.com and I'm really having fun with it.

In January, I finished a rug for a student of mine who passed away.  Here's a picture of it before it was removed from the loom.  This will give you an idea of what a rug looks like as it's being woven.

I  would appreciate any feedback you have on this site, and would like to hear any suggestions you have for it.
